What should a school report include?
(For all years)
- Headteachers must send a written report to parents on their child’s progress for the school year by the end of each summer term. You are allowed to split the report across the academic year, for example, to report on each term separately. ReportAssist allows for up to three reports per year, each can have its own layout (Winter, Spring and Summer).
- As well as general progress, reports should include brief particulars of achievements, highlighting strengths and developmental needs. ReportAssist layouts can include both text boxes and grids that are designed to accelerate how teachers enter this information.
- The pupil's attendance record should be included in the report. ReportAssist has the ability to import attendance data exported from popular school administration systems, inserting this information into the pupil's report.
- Reports must include how to arrange a discussion about the report with a teacher at the school.
(Years 1 and above)
- Reports should include the results of any national curriculum assessments, exams or qualifications taken by the pupil.
- The UK Department for Education (DfE) is expected to remove the requirement for report attendance data for the 2019/20 academic year. However, this subject to the necessary legislation being made.
- It will not be possible to include outcomes of key stages 1 and 2 tests or teacher assessments in the 2019/20 reports. It will also not be possible to include comparative information about the attainment of pupils of the same age in the school or nationally.
- Schools should take a proportionate approach in deciding what information to include within their pupils’ reports. It is likely that, in many cases, it will not be possible for reports to cover the period of partial school closures.
- It may be appropriate to delay how parents can discuss a report with the child's teacher or offering other options, such as telephone discussions.
